To eat them or to not eat them? Simple, just EAT them..
The notoriety about cutting out carbs from your diet amongst the fitness industry is vast spread. About 80% of my new clients, often women, believe to only lose weight through a low-carb diet. Well, I’m not here to d
ebate, whether a low-carb diet is the “only” way or not. Nevertheless, what I will do as I always tell my clients, is this – if you want to lose weight then do it gradually than instantly.
I’m sure that there have been numerous of people that have lost weight through a low-carb diet. But, like I said I’m not here to debate and on the other hand, I’m not a fan of diets in general. I don’t want to take much of your time, therefore am I going to give you a few good reasons as to why you SHOULD eat your carbs.
- CARBS are FUN!
Indeed, carbs are truly fun, carbs are the main source of energy in our diet. And what’s more fun than receiving energy, right?! Our body can only store a limited version in quantities, which is why it is so eager to use carbs for energy. Carbs are digested into small pieces of glucose, which is a simple sugar form, through our small intestine’s walls. After digestion, glucose will fund itself in the liver, where it enters the circulatory system and the glucose blood level rises.A
ny excess of glucose will be rejected by the liver and stored as fat. This serves as the reason we count (“or should count”) the amount of your daily carbohydrate intake.
The recommended amount and percent of carbs per day, lays by 45 – 65% of your total calorie intake divided by four.
On the other hand, a scarce in carbohydrates can be harmful to the body. Our body needs energy and when the body doesn’t receive it through carbs it’ll absorbs fat for energy. One would think this
is something good, hence losing fat means losing weight. Losing weight that way can, doesn’t mean it necessarily will, but could result in having to fight off the yoyo-effect once carbs are back incorporated into your diet.
- CARBS care about your HEALTH!
Eliminating carbs completely from your diet can result in several severe problems such as…
- Dealing with ketones, which results from your body having to break down fat for energy. Hence, why I mentioned earlier that losing body fat that way isn’t commendable.
- Ketones make your blood acidic, this results in having stinky breath, make you feel light-headed, nauseated and tired e.g. extreme fatigue.
- Also, having no cabs in your system, will cause you to have trouble concentrating. Our brain requires an equal amount grams of carbs daily to work at its best.
- WHITE WHEAT vs. WHOLE GRAINS
Whenever I tell people to stay away from white flour and switch over to whole grains most tend to look at me crazy *shrugs*. Well, I never explained the real reason behind this, so I’m going to give you two important facts.
First, we need to know that there is a big difference between white flour and whole grains. Both are processed different and bring different health benefits. Flour is made from wheat berries, which carry three nutrient-rich parts: the bran (the outer layer), the germ (the inner part) and the endosperm (the starchy part). Whole wheat is processed to have all three parts, since white flour is only processed through the endosperm.
What does this mean?
Just like with most, the main nutritious source lays in the part outside, in this case, the bran and the germ. What you will find in whole wheat is a high fiber level, vitamins B6 and E, magnesium, zinc and other great nutritious sources. Whereas, in white flour the endosperm is the only nutritional part, this results in a greater loss of most nutritious parts such as fiber, essential fatty acids, minerals and vitamins.
Second, eating whole grains, lowers the risk of a heart attack or stroke by 35 percent*. Also, whole grains intake tends to cut down, chronic illnesses, diabetes and bowel trouble.
So, if you’re going to stay away from carbs then let it be white flour and white flour only!
